Freeing Hindu Temples from clutches of Government

We are fighting Government on four fronts:

First and most important is at the Supreme Court to declare the state acts that allow govt control of Hindu temples as unconstitutional. The case was filed by Pujya Swami Dayananada Saraswati, Swami Paramatmananda Saraswati and Swami Viswerananda representing the Hindu Dharma Achary Sabha.

Second, at the State Level to prevent loot of Temple Money cases are filed at the respective High Courts to restrict Govt from misusing Temple Funds – our goal is to prevent and restrict loot of temple money.

Third, cases in High courts to protect temple properties from being sold and encroached and illegal occupation. And also prevent defacement and destruction of heritage structures including mandapas, murals, inscriptions, sculptures, vigrahams and murthis.

Fourth, question and nullify the illegal appointment of Executive Officers at Individual temples who then proceed to convert every large temple into a typical Govt department destroying the temple properties, defacing the temple sanctity and denying any role for the Hindu community in matters concerning their temple.

Freeing Temples from Government control: Supreme Court WP 476/2012

The most important legal challenge to free Temples from Govt control is the Writ Petition 476 filed in Dec 2022. The case was filed after extensive research by TWS under the guidance of Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati, the then convener of Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha.

The case seeks to:

  • Abolish the power of Governments (of Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Telangana and Puducherry) to appoint trustees to Hindu Temples, which is subverted by NOT APPOINTING trustees
  • Abolish power of Governments to appoint Executive Officers, who are all State Govt servants, to run Hindu Temples

Abolish power of Governments in matters relating to how the money of Hindu Temple would be spent – there is rampant misutilization of temple money unrelated to Dharmik and sampradayik activities of temple.
